Blood Testament Patch 2.9.1
HUNT: SHOWDOWN 1896 · UPDATE 2.9

Event guide

Every change in update 2.9

The event ships alongside 2.9, which brings a solid pile of changes shaped by community feedback. The numbers here are the ones from the published patch notes.

Notes from September 8 and the 2.9.1 notes from October 6 · updated October 8, 2026

Weapon balance

Hunting Bow

Probably the most controversial balance change in 2.9. They cut the one-hit-kill torso range at full draw, flatten the damage curve while drawing and lower the reserve.

LeMat family

The LeMat family gets High Velocity ammo in the Arsenal (which puts the carbine back on the map as the most versatile gun in the game, if it wasn't already) in exchange for reserve. The Terminus gets a real push.

Everything hidden

The map is hidden by default again: Extraction Points, Supply Points and Scout Towers. And watch out, because both Scout Towers and medic camps are back in the game.

How things get revealed

  • Every Clue reveals two Extraction Points
  • Scouting Maps can show up at any Supply Point
  • Radius to discover hidden locations: 75 m
  • The Spyglass and pings still reveal at range
  • The Clockwork Carriage can reveal every hidden location

The Scout Towers

Even hidden, they still hold the map inside that reveals every point of interest. And they seem to keep their Devil's Trail spots, so if you know them by heart, that's an edge.

Traits in Loadouts

At last you can save Traits as part of a Loadout, up to 15 points per Loadout. Every Loadout now shows its double cost: Hunt Dollars for the gear and Upgrade Points for the Traits.

  • Equip it and the Traits assign themselves
  • If you are short on points, it won't equip in full
  • There's a checkbox to skip the Traits and take only the gear
  • Copying an equipped Loadout skips Scarce and locked Traits

Trait changes

A couple of Traits get a brand new effect when mixed with Catalyst, and three old favorites the community kept asking for are back.

NEW CATALYST EFFECTS

Vulture and Light Foot

  • Vulture: loot some ammo off downed Hunters
  • Light Foot: your Hunter doesn't snap branches while moving

Vulture is very tempting for the special-ammo crowd. And the branches effect used to be tied to Beastface, so it's basically a comeback.

BACK IN THE WORLD

Crackshot, Blademancer and Corpseseer

They show up again in Scout Towers and themed Supply Points, both sealed and regular.

Blademancer pairs especially well with the bow reserve cut, so I imagine people will be happy.

Other changes

Not headline material, but they make a difference.

MMR and Fair Play

Two of the thorniest problems Hunt has right now: getting into the game and coming back between events.

MATCHMAKING

MMR decay

Players returning after a long break get a temporary modifier that lowers matchup difficulty and fades out as they shake off the rust.

MATCHMAKING

New Player Modifier

It replaces the flat reduction that cut off abruptly at a specific Bloodline Rank with a much smoother curve, against similarly skilled opponents.

CHEATERS

Fair Play Follow Up

First step toward refunds: if a confirmed cheater killed you, you get an automatic refund in Hunt Dollars. And if your report leads to action, you get told, with a pop-up when you log in.

Questions about the guide

Why doesn't the bow one-shot to the torso at the same range anymore?

Because its full-draw range got cut: from 36 to 30 m with Hundred Hands and from 29 to 27 m without it. On top of that, half-drawn shots do less damage and the reserve drops to 6 regular arrows and 4 special per slot.

Which tools and consumables change price?

Ranged killing gear gets pricier: Throwing Axes go up to $80, the Penny Derringer to $100 and the Throwing Spear to $145. Support gets cheaper: Tool Box drops to $25, the First Aid Kit and Decoy to $15 and Bear Traps to $35.

How many Traits fit in a Loadout?

Up to 15 points per Loadout. Equip it and the Traits assign themselves; if you are short on points, it won't equip in full. There's also a checkbox to skip the Traits and take only the gear.

What happens if a cheater kills me?

If it's a confirmed cheater, you get an automatic refund in Hunt Dollars. And if your report leads to action, you get a pop-up message when you log in.

What is the LeMat's High Velocity ammo?

A new ammo type for the LeMat family in the Arsenal. On the carbine it does 101 damage at 560 m/s with a reserve of 12; on the pistol, 92 damage at 450 m/s with a reserve of 8. In exchange, the revolver loses reserve on bullets, buckshot and slugs.

How do I find Extraction Points if the map is hidden?

Every Clue reveals two Extraction Points, and you only need to get within 75 m of a location to discover it. The Spyglass and pings still reveal at range, Scouting Maps can show up at any Supply Point, and Scout Towers hold the map with every point of interest.

Which Traits are back in the world?

Crackshot, Blademancer and Corpseseer. They show up again in Scout Towers and themed Supply Points, both sealed and regular.

What is MMR decay?

A temporary modifier for players coming back after a long break: it lowers the difficulty of matchups and fades out as you shake off the rust.
